Current Study Modes & Their Limitations At the moment, Duocards offers two main modes: • Flashcards, which are great — simple, clean, and effective. • Shuffle Terms, which gives a list of terms and definitions to match. But the “shuffle terms” mode feels too easy and not very useful, especially for words you’ve already learned. Even if you don’t know a word, you can guess it easily by elimination. And once you do know the word, the mode just wastes time and doesn’t challenge memory or spelling. What Would Be Better: Combined Study Mode (with multiple steps) Here’s a new concept I’d love to see in Duocards — a Combined Study Mode that takes small groups of 6–7 words and presents them in multiple formats, in one learning session. How does it work: Step 1: Multiple Choice • You can choose whether to see the term or the definition in settings. Or both and it will be x2, first you have terms after definitions (not 6-7 in multiple choice mode, but 12-14) • Based on your choice: • term above, the app shows 4–5 multiple choice options below and you have to select correct definition(random definitions from your set). • definition above, the app shows 4–5 multiple choice options below and you have to select correct term (random terms from your set). • You answer for 6–7 words (small number of words from cards set) or answer 12-14 times if choose definitions and terms. Step 2: Flashcards • The same 6–7 words shown as flashcards (like Duocards already does really well). It will be 12-14 times, term - definition, definition - term. Step 3: Listening The same 6–7 words again, but now you must type them while you listen. Listen how term pronounce - type it. Step 4: Writing • The same 6–7 words again, you must type them. Definition is given - type the term. Session is Done: After the 4 steps, if a word had any mistakes, it would return in the next session with a “Study Again” tag. This is something Duocards already does in its spaced repetition system — so it fits perfectly. Settings: to be short, you can turn off/on all modes if you don’t like current mode and select how it will work, definition first or term (you can turn off/on listening, writing, flashcards or multiple choice. For multiple choice & flashcards you can choose term (on-off) and if its on term will be up and you select definitions, and definitions (on-off) same. If both are (on) user will get both and will be terms first and after definitions) A dedicated Writing Mode with advanced logic. Lets call it HARD MODE. I propose adding a writing mode similar to Quizlet’s, but with more precise feedback and spaced repetition logic. You can use it after learning your cards to master them. Here’s how it could work: • You select set and open this HARD MODE and tap to “start” • Words are presented in small batches (6-7 words per session). • To “master” a word, the user must write it correctly twice in a row. • If the user makes a mistake on the first or second attempt, the progress for that word resets, and they have to try again in the future. • This method forces active recall and spelling accuracy, which greatly improves retention. • At the end of the session, the app should display detailed stats: how many words were spelled correctly on the first try, how many needed multiple attempts, and overall success percentage. • The app should then schedule words with errors to reappear more frequently according to spaced repetition principles until mastered. This mode is very hard and it makes you remember the word and spelling. Its very helpful to inter here after learning combined mode to master word. Why this is important? Currently, Duocards’ spaced repetition is good, but the lack of integrated challenge modes means users might recognize words passively without fully mastering spelling or active recall. Quizlet’s approach makes learning more dynamic and effective by combining multiple question types and forcing active production of words. I switched to Quizlet mainly for this feature, but I miss Duocards’ smooth spaced repetition and clean design. If Duocards could merge the best of both worlds — your efficient repetition algorithm with an engaging multi-mode study system — it would be a game-changer. Thank you for your dedication and for considering this detailed feedback. I’m happy to answer any questions or help clarify the concept if needed.
